Building A Dream
The year 1975 marked the beginning of a realization of a dream for Peter Lewis. Inspired by summers spent on his aunt and uncle’s farm, he purchased a farm in Floyd County, VA, and began establishing an educational retreat center for underserved children. What began as the Lewis family hosting small groups of children developed into a not-for-profit organization serving low-income and inner city children in the Roanoke region. With generous support from many benefactors and capital campaigns, the original barn donated by the Lewis family has grown to include conference facilities, overnight cabin, recreational spaces, and outdoor team-building challenge courses for group retreats. Our programs throughout the school year to improve public education and close the achievement gap for all children and families in Roanoke offers a supportive academic environment with a large component of fun, friendship and mentoring.
